John George Stasney Obituary
John George Stasney, age 96, of Montgomery, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Central Health Care in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12 from 4pm-8pm at Schoenbauer Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Fr. Tom Niehaus officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Military Honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Veterans Honor Guard.

John was born on November 12,1926 in Erin Township Rice County to John Clarence and Emma (Heyda) Stasney. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Rita Ann Choudek on October 4, 1950 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. He was a farmer all of his life and also did work for Green Giant in Montgomery. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree Grand Night of the KC’s, a member of the American Legion and VFW both of Montgomery. John enjoyed watching wrestling, farming, dancing, playing cards, raising his white faced Herford cattle, socializing with friends, and spending time with family.

John is survived by his wife, Rita Stasney of Montgomery; children, John “Jack” (Patty) Stasney of Jordan, Bruce (Mary) Stasney of New Prague, Russ (Debbie) Stasney of Montgomery, Scott Stasney (Julie Bifano) of Montgomery, and Dean (Catherine) Stasney of Montgomery; grandchildren, John “Jack” Jr. (Courtney) Stasney, Lindsey (Jake) Nelson, Luke Stasney, Ellen (Matt) Kelly, Matt (Jamie) Stasney, Meghann (Kevin) Malecha, Pete (Colleen) Stasney, Nichole (Kyle) Tuma, Katelyn (Miles) Johnson, Thaddeus (Veronica) Stasney, Jayden Stasney (fiancé, Lucy Lannon), Anastasia Stasney; 20 great-grandchildren and two on the way.

John is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Celia Harn, Alice Stoekel, Evelyn Felix, Lillian Chodek, and Clarence Stasney
